One of the trickiest places to start when wanting to travel on a budget is to figure out where to stay.  If you’re not careful, accommodation can become the most expensive part of your trip – but it doesn’t have to be that way. Tried and tested by generations of travelers, the following resources cater to every travel personality and have proven to be excellent options for both short and long-term travel. 

It might seem an unlikely place for cultures to meet and for tradition to endure -- and for both of those things to happen along side each other -- yet such things occur on Cape Breton Island.

London has many museums, but not all of them cost to visit. I visited some free museums and some that charged to visit. Most museums were only a few pounds, but a few, such as Buckingham Palace, cost quite a bit more, but were worth the money to see. I’ve put together some information about the museums I visited, including a short description, where they are located, and if there is a cost for the museum ($=cost a fee, Free=no charge).

Everyone on the boat – Check. Enough life jackets – After a minor delay, Check. Gas – Check. Already completed half the trip – Check.

Lisa Hsia is unlike the studio artists we have shared in the recent past. Actually, Lisa has no studio at all! She is a traveler and her art has to be portable. She takes her work with her out into the world, documenting in words and illustrations what she observes.

Now if you think Lisa limits her work to the Oakland, California (US) area where she currently lives, you are quite mistaken. Lisa truly does travel and a few years ago she found herself in a variety of cities around the world. She has graciously agreed to share her work with you.

Whale watching...it's on everyone's bucketlist - and why? Because it's such a magical experience. Seeing a whale breaching, well, it's incredible. The enormous power, the immensity of the whale, and the rareness of actually seeing one? There's nothing else like it.

A gateway to Washington D.C. to the north, Virginia Beach to the east, and touching the James and Elizabeth Rivers, the Chesapeake Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean, Norfolk draws visitors and residents from around the country – and the world. The culinary scene is equally eclectic. While you can catch the occasional chain, more often street corners are home to mom and pop diners, chef-driven hotspots, and unique food finds from Turkish to Creole, Jamaican to European.
 

Ashley Swinton is an explorer. She’s also a photographer with a great eye and a penchant for sharing her adventures on instagram (@wildfrolicker), where quite a number of people have started to take notice. From her origins on an island off the west coast of Canada, to wanderings around Iceland, Scandinavia, and now trekking around the Rockies, she manages to connect and ground us to the greater world in an intimate and personal way. It’s our pleasure this month to introduce you to the work and words of Ashley Swinton.

I’ve put together some information about the walking tours to give you some insight into how they work and what to expect. You have the opportunity to see and learn interesting facts, while getting some great exercise and seeing parts of London you may have not seen otherwise.
