International Teaching Families: A Compendium

Hi, I’m Kelly – founder and editor of International Teaching Families, official “trailing spouse,” and mum of three. I grew up in Australia and caught the travel bug early after moving to the UK in my 20s. That’s where I met my husband (a fellow Aussie and travel enthusiast), before we returned home to get married, buy a house, and have a few kids... But we quickly realised the traditional path wasn’t for us.

International Teaching Families: A Compendium

We wanted to escape the daily grind of work, school, daycare drops offs… repeat. We were craving new adventures, variety and a lifestyle that was a bit more unique.

That’s where being married to a teacher definitely has its perks! We began researching international schools and my husband applied for roles. It wasn’t long before he landed a job at a top school in Lima, Peru. From there we lived in South Korea for three years and are now at our third international school, in Penang, Malaysia. While there’s been plenty of change (and challenges) along the way, our kids have embraced this lifestyle. It's literally opened their eyes up to a whole new world.

I write about the ups and downs of expat life, and the opportunities it offers for families. If you’re considering travelling or moving internationally with kids, or you’re just curious, I hope you find my stories helpful!
