As a parent, I’m learning a lot about what growing up in the US is like for a young lady. There are many influences on our young women, from the media (ugh) to a few wise and thoughtful websites, books, and experiences.
Whilst I was wandering through the White House a few weeks ago, marveling at the beautiful and creative Christmas decorations, I felt an immense sense of pride. Pride that this is our nation’s home, built and rebuilt after fire and war.

As a mom, I know it's hard to find great books about girl power for young women to read (you may recall the recent firestorm over the latest Barbie/engineering book. Enough said.). So when I find great ones, I am elated.
My first trip to Ecuador in 2003 was fabulous. As an ambitious 22 year old, I recruited a small group of young eager teachers and spent the summer teaching English to very poor children on the coast of Ecuador. We had a great time in the exotic land all the way in South America.
