Historic Florida Artist at Maitland Art Center
Impressionist painter William Vincent Kirkpatrick once studied at the
Maitland Art Center, and this month that historic Florida Artist will be
honored at the Center with an exhibition which opens on Friday, July
16th.  Kirkpatrick was born in St. Augustine in 1939. Growing up in a
home filled with culture, (his mother was a painter) young William took
guitar lessons, but his life changed at age ten when he won an art
contest. William went on to study at the Maitland Art Center in 1950,

Becca Cohen, a newly minted graduate of the University of Maryland in College Park heard about Dog Meets World through idealist.org. She described her interest by stating "When I was traveling in southern Africa last year as part of my study abroad time, it was incredible seeing how excited all the children would get when we took their pictures and let them see it on the digital screen. My friends and I had discussions about how these children probably didn't have pictures of themselves, and many might not even have had mirrors.

Japanese Dollhouse - Tokyo, Japan

 

While in Japan I stayed at the Sawonoya Ryokan – an oasis surrounded by the old neighborhoods of Tokyo near Ueno Park.  This collection of wooden dolls in the lobby of the Ryokan were a nice touch to the atmosphere.  This neighborhood was not like the rest of bustling Tokyo, it was quiet and calm with few tourists.  The Ryokan was a unique experience; it not only provided me a place to sleep which met my budget in Tokyo, but it provided insight into the Japanese culture.
