The Maldives (also called the Maldives Islands) is an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, southwest of both Sri Lanka and India. The Maldives consists of two rolls of atolls (26 in total) that are located on the equatorial belt. There are 1,190 islands in the Maldives, although only 200 are inhabited. Most of the area is ocean!
